A serene atmosphere engulfed the Saraswati Temple within the IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram campus on Thursday, August 27, 2026, as hundreds of new students gathered for the sacred Upanayana ceremony for the 2026/2027 academic year. Organized by the Student Executive Board (BEM), the annual initiation ritual blends academic aspirations with deep-rooted spiritual values. The ceremony was officiated by respected Hindu priest Ida Pedanda Gde Kertha Arsa.
In her opening report, BEM President Gusti Ayu Dheananda Sagitha Putri detailed the event’s technical preparations, transparent budget management, and student participation, expressing her appreciation to all supporters.
Representing the New Student Admissions Committee (PMB), Vice Chair Ida Ayu Ketut Hersudikwi Adnyani, S.E., M.I.Kom. (Ibu Dayu), highlighted the importance of institutional synergy and expressed gratitude for the Rector’s full support. She urged the incoming cohort to uphold three core principles: Firstly, pursue academic excellence while maintaining strong moral character and ethics. Secondly, uphold national values, including Pancasila, diversity (Bhinneka Tunggal Ika), and patriotism. Lastly, safeguard the reputation of IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram at all times.
Officially opening the event, Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. I Wayan Wirata, A.Ma., S.E., M.Si., M.Pd., elaborated on the philosophical essence of Upanayana. He emphasized that the ritual symbolizes spiritual purification and the awakening of intellectual consciousness, guiding seekers from the darkness of ignorance (avidya) to the enlightenment of knowledge (vidya).
Expanding on this philosophical foundation, Prof. Wirata highlighted that higher education at IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram goes far beyond the mere acquisition of technical skills and formal degrees. He noted that true scholarship requires an unwavering commitment to integrity, humility, and public service.
By connecting ancient Vedic wisdom with modern educational practices, the institute aims to cultivate visionary thinkers who possess both analytical sharpness and empathetic leadership, ensuring they are well-equipped to address complex contemporary challenges while remaining anchored in ethical principles.
Furthermore, the Rector stressed the vital role of the new generation in fostering social harmony within Indonesia’s diverse society. He encouraged students to utilize their time on campus not only as an avenue for personal growth, but also as a platform to build bridges across cultural and social divides.
Through active participation in academic research, community outreach, and campus organizations, the newly admitted students are expected to embody the institute’s mission of producing graduates who actively contribute to nation-building and social progress.
The ceremony concluded with joint prayers and the Majaya-jaya purification ritual, where students sought divine blessings for their upcoming academic journey.
